Heavy heart today
I am sitting here tonight with my heart hurting, one of my children had someone they love dearly pass away unexpectedly yesterday. I know that its only temporary the pain, the grief, the disbelief, the shock, but it still doesn’t discredit the hurt that my child is feeling right now.
Grief is a profound and complex emotion that accompanies the loss of someone significant. It manifests uniquely in each individual, encompassing a range of feelings such as sadness, anger, confusion, and longing. The journey through grief is not linear, it involves waves of intense emotions that can be overwhelming. Coping with grief involves acknowledging and processing emotions, seeking support from others, and allowing oneself to grieve in a way that feels authentic. Myself, I have never been one to love to openly cry in front of others, I have always felt that I wasn’t being strong if I allowed myself tears running down my cheeks. Last night I had to openly admit that it is ok to cry and that it can help with the loss of a loved one. While grief can feel all-encompassing, with time, healing becomes possible, allowing you to cherish the memories of who has been lost while gradually moving forward.
When faced with difficult times and overwhelming sadness, it can seem nearly impossible to find any semblance of positivity or happiness in daily life. However, despite the challenges that may arise, it is crucial to remember that happiness is a choice. By actively seeking out the good in each day, even in hardships, if we can start to shift our perspective and we can gradually build a happier life. Whether it is the warmth of the sun on our skin, the laughter of a loved one, the beauty of nature surrounding us, there are small moments of joy waiting to be noticed. Just acknowledging and embracing these moments, we can cultivate a more positive outlook and find solace in the present moment.
Being a friend means offering support, being a shoulder to cry on, and cheering someone on. However, it is crucial to understand that it is not your responsibility to make someone else happy. Prioritizing your well-being is essential before extending help to others, as you cannot pour from an empty cup. Self-care is fundamental; ensuring your own emotional and mental health is intact empowers you to be a better support system for those around you. Remember, practicing self-care is not selfish, but a necessary step towards maintaining healthy relationships and boundaries.
